What Is Dahl?

A Dahl (also spelled dal or dhal) is a staple of Indian cooking. It refers to a simple dish made from split lentils or peas or a combination of the two along with some Indian spices. My personal favorite is a split pea dahl. It is usually served on a bed of rice alongside a main dish such as a curry. Dahl is cooked daily in most Indian families and is eaten throughout the day with each meal.
